Bob’s Babble   by: Bob Chandler – Senior Warden

As we start a new year here at St. Christopher’s, we also start off with a new Senior Warden.  I am very honored to think that I have been entrusted by all of you to lead our beloved parish through this exciting time.  This is my first time as a Senior Warden, so I just hope I can do as well as the two Bob’s that preceded me.  Those are some pretty big shoes to fill, as I served on the Vestry with both and watched them do incredible jobs.  Thank you all for giving me the opportunity to serve you.

We have made great strides in the last few years in fixing up our church building inside and out.  From the siding and the air conditioning, to the installation of the city water, and starting the remodeling of the restrooms, the Vestry is moving toward getting our physical church much more appealing.  We still have more work to do, and I know that if we all put our heads together we can come up with ways to get to where we want to be.  I have seen this congregation come together and do some pretty amazing things in the almost eight years we have been worshiping here, and with our old members and with the new families we have, there is no limit to what St. Christopher’s can accomplish.

You know, I look back a few years ago, and we were all wondering what was going to happen with our church.  Most of our people were elderly and our children were growing and moving on in their own lives.  We didn’t know what was down the road, but it didn’t look very good.  Now look how our Lord God has blessed us!  With the addition of Sheryl Jewett and her children, Scott and Suzanne Meade and their family, Tony Fernandez and his daughters, and Mike Flannery and his sons, our pews are once again full on most Sunday’s.  Thank you Lord, for sending these fine folks to us, and thank you Sheryl, Scott and Suzanne, Tony, and Mike for blessing us all with your presence.  We hope that St. Christopher’s is as much a blessing to you, as you are to us.

As we shiver our way through the rest of winter, and look forward to warmer weather, that’s when things get busy here.  Spring brings things like flower planting, getting ready for the Lavender and Lace luncheon, the Pond Expo concession stand (All of which are our fine ECW’s programs), we also have a couple of graduates again this year.  So you can see that the first six months of 2009 will be pretty exciting.  Let’s all get together and help the ladies out, and make this year really special.

Sunday School has been going great.  We have been through first and second Samuel and first and second Kings.  Now we are studying The Acts of the Apostles and the conversion of Saul.  How it must have been for him and what it is like to for us today sharing Jesus with others in our daily lives.  What it means for us to continue  to “stand firm” spreading the good news of Jesus Christ.  “That it is God that makes both us and you stand firm in Christ.”  2 Cor. 1:21

The pre-school and lower elementary children’s class is in the nursery (pre-school-2nd grade) is with Mrs. Joyce or Miss Haniford. The upper elementary is with Mrs. Chandler and Mrs. Harrison (3rd -6th graders)  The Middle school class is with Mrs. Meade or Les Heckle (7th and 8th graders) The High school class is with Mr. Bestow or Mr. Schrum  (Freshman-Seniors)

Youth Group  by: Julie Chandler

The Youth Group again are being asked to volunteer to help the E.C.W. with two of their biggest fundraisers of the year.  Both these events help contribute to the many ministries that E.C.W. support, and provides the Youth Group with a chance to volunteer in their community as they learn how to build a stronger community together.

E.C.W News  by: Kathleen Berwick
The first meeting was held on January 3rd and we did some work on a budget for 2009.
Since we probably won't be participating in Buckley Farm fest again, we are looking for new ways to raise funds to continue our outreach programs. It has been suggested that we try a Rummage Sale again. A date will be announced later. DO NOT bring any items until we say so, because we don't have anywhere to store items. Also we do not want soiled, or torn items. Before you being anything, ask yourself "would I buy this?" If your honest answer is "no" then don't expect anyone else to buy it. We have sent our annual donations to Meals on Wheels, St. Margaret's House and Harbor Mission. We are continuing with collections for local food pantries and there is a schedule on the notice board in the narthex.
It was decided we would supplement these donations from our treasury. Please note that the Lavender & Lace Luncheon will be April 18th, with Gerri Smith again portraying a woman from the bible. The following weekend we will be at the Pond Expo with our concession booth. This is always a lot of fun (but hard work), so we will be looking for volunteers to prepare food and then work on the day, Saturday April 25th. We are the only concession there so it has always been a good fund raiser. Only not-for-profit groups are allowed to have the concessions. Meetings are on the first Saturday of each month at 10.00 a.m. downstairs, except for July and August. Please come and join us.

Make out your check and indicate in the memo that this is for the altar flowers. Put in the plate or give to Sally Steele. When your chosen Sunday mass is over, you may take the flowers home otherwise they are taken to shut-ins or to Wittenburg nursing home, to cheer the residents. Easter and Christmas flowers vary in price.

 Harbor

by: Sally Steele

Thank you for the contributions you made this past year. As you can see by the thank you notes that are posted in the undercroft Father Phelps appreciates your help. This spring as you go through your closets to see what you might need or that fits and you find some nice things you no longer want remember Harbor Mission. He does not have room to store warm weather clothes so I will be taking them up starting in the month of April. I usually go up the third week of the month on Tuesday or Wednesday. Please just let me know when you have dropped something off in the coat room.
